Bringing That Rustic Edge With The Right Stain Option

Rustic-themed wine cellars? Why not?! A rustic-looking wine cellar project is not just attractive, but it has a unique quality all on its own. The elegance factor is still present, but it will also exude an aura that’s very reminiscent of the old-country charm. That’s why the demand for this wine cellar theme has actually gone up, popularity-wise. For this year, here’s one rustic-themed wine cellar project that we feel will definitely be one of the most memorable ones:

Rustic-themed wine cellar

This is a Gold x Vintner creation in Premium Redwood. Some of you would probably question the wood choice straightaway since the client, after all, wanted a rustic theme. Nonetheless, while the wood option is not Rustic Pine, this doesn’t deter from the ability of our design team to transform the racking arrangement into what the client wants. The solution is simple: pick the right stain and/or finish option. In this case, our design team went with a Dark Walnut stain on the wine racks.

Keep in mind that Premium Redwood is one of our top four wood choices for custom wine cellar projects, along with its sister, Clear All-Heart Redwood. As far as wood properties are concerned, Premium Redwood is at par with all the other three (Clear All-Heart Redwood, Rustic Pine, and Prime Mahogany) which is why working with it to bring about that rustic look to the wine cellar was not a tall order at all. Redwood, in general, has an open-celled structure and contains little or no pitch or resins. This enables the wood to absorb and retain all types of finishes extremely well. Dark Walnut was a smart move because this stain option coats the wood with a deep, golden brown color that really brings out its beautiful grain patterns in bold relief.

WCI actually has a bevy of these stain and finish options to choose from, including lacquer, for all your wine cellar design needs. It’s just a matter of choosing the one that will really bring out your preferred look for your wine cellar project. Note that in many cases, adding a stain to a wood will enhance the color variations of the wood, or the grain patterns. It is important to note that this is not a defect in the wood, but an attribute enhanced through the staining process. That is why “dressing up” your wood with these stains and finishes is one of the best ways to achieve a desired theme for your wine cellar.
